Community Safety

Introduction

The Community Safety Committee oversees policy development on community safety issues facing local government, such as:

  • Justice and policing
    • RCMP contract/own force policing/auxiliary policing
    • Court services
    • Keep of prisoners
    • Marijuana grow-ops
    • Bylaw enforcement
  • Crime prevention initiatives
  • Fire services - mutual aid agreements, volunteer fire fighters
  • Other issues including flood protection, liquor policy, gaming, emergency services and metal theft

Current Policy & Initiatives

The Committee has developed member surveys, organized conferences/meetings around specific issues, and developed policy papers to obtain local government feedback on various issues.

Flood Protection
A request for comment on the provincial policy on new dikes has been distributed to UBCM members - please forward comments to UBCM by February 25, 2011.
