Community Safety
Introduction
The Community Safety Committee oversees policy development on community safety issues facing local government, such as:
- Justice and policing
- RCMP contract/own force policing/auxiliary policing
- Court services
- Keep of prisoners
- Marijuana grow-ops
- Bylaw enforcement
- Crime prevention initiatives
- Fire services - mutual aid agreements, volunteer fire fighters
- Other issues including flood protection, liquor policy, gaming, emergency services and metal theft
Current Policy & Initiatives
The Committee has developed member surveys, organized conferences/meetings around specific issues, and developed policy papers to obtain local government feedback on various issues.Policy Documents & Resources

Police Services in British Columbia: Affordability & Accountability was adopted as a policy paper at the 2009 UBCM Convention.
Flood Protection
A request for comment on the provincial policy on new dikes has been distributed to UBCM members - please forward comments to UBCM by February 25, 2011.
