School Community Connections
Applications are no longer being accepted for this program, except from communities that have an approved extension to the application deadline.
Launched in 2005, the School Community Connections (SCC) program was created through a one-time $10 million grant from the provincial Ministry of Education. The purpose of the program is to support greater utilization of school facilities for broader community purposes and to promote sustainable and innovative collaboration between school districts and local governments. SCC is jointly managed by the Union of BC Municipalities and the BC School Trustees Association.
The original 2005 program provided each school district with the opportunity to apply for up to $170,000 by advancing through three funding stages - making, developing and completing the connection. The 2008 "Strengthening the Connection" program was designed to build on the partnerships established during the 2005 program. The program provided the opportunity for each school district to apply for up to three grants of $8,000 each in order to support programming that benefited both the school and the larger community. Two rounds of the 2008 program have been available.
The Steering Committee will be reviewing the SCC program in 2010 to determine whether there are sufficient remaining funds to offer a future round of applications.
